UN Warns Food Aid in Sudan Could Run Out by March Due to Funding Shortfall

The United Nations warned on Thursday that food aid stocks in war-torn Sudan could be exhausted by the end of March unless urgent additional funding is secured, placing millions of people at risk of hunger and famine.
The United Nations said the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as conflict disrupts supply chains, displaces populations and limits access to basic services across large parts of the country.
In a statement, the World Food Programme warned that “without immediate additional financing, millions of people will be left without life-saving food assistance within weeks.” The agency added that it has already been forced to cut food rations to the bare minimum required for survival.
Sudan has been engulfed in violence since fighting erupted between rival military factions, pushing the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. According to UN estimates, millions of people now face acute food insecurity, with famine conditions already reported in several areas.
Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly called on international donors to step up funding, warning that further delays could have catastrophic consequences for civilians caught in the conflict.
