In a historic performance at the Homeless World Cup, Egypt defeated reigning champions Mexico 4-3 in rainy conditions on Saturday, securing a place in the men’s final. This marks the first time an African team has reached the final in the tournament’s history. Egypt will face Portugal in the championship match tomorrow.
North African goalkeeper Mohamed Hussein Badawy delivered a stellar performance, making crucial saves to protect his team’s lead and guide them to the semi-finals. Earlier in the day, Egypt overcame South Africa, a spirited team known for their singing, dancing, and relentless energy throughout the week. South African captain Niyaaz Adriaanse opened the scoring with a long-range strike into the top-left corner, before Mostafa Mohamed Ismael equalized with his signature speed and technical skill.
Meanwhile, in the women’s tournament, the Mexican team is aiming for an eighth consecutive title and will face Uganda in the final.
Last year’s edition, held in Seoul, South Korea, was the largest in the Homeless World Cup’s 20-year history, featuring more than 500 players on three specially constructed pitches. Organizers promise that this year’s tournament will be even bigger and more spectacular.
