Airstrikes carried out by the Nigerian Army in northeastern Nigeria have resulted in heavy casualties in Yobe State, according to local sources and human rights organizations.

The strikes, conducted on Saturday, were reportedly aimed at fighters from the jihadist group Boko Haram. However, initial reports suggest that the human toll may be significant.

Amnesty International has reported more than 100 deaths and at least 35 serious injuries. A local official provided a higher estimate, indicating that around 200 people were either killed or wounded in the operation.

The Nigerian military has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Nigeria has been facing a jihadist insurgency led by Boko Haram since 2009, a conflict that has caused thousands of deaths and led to widespread displacement.

Over time, the situation has become more complex with the emergence of splinter groups, including factions linked to the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

While violence remains concentrated in the northeast, it has increasingly spread to other regions of the country. In western areas, criminal armed groups have also intensified attacks against civilians, contributing to a broader climate of insecurity.
