Ten people were abducted on Monday night in the village of Isaba, located in Nigeria’s western Kwara State, police said on Tuesday. The attack occurred just one week after 35 people were kidnapped in a nearby community before being later found.

According to Kwara State Police Commissioner Ojo Adékímí, armed herders stormed the village, firing sporadically before taking ten residents captive. “The victims include women and children,” he told AFP, adding that security forces have launched an operation to track the abductors and secure the victims’ release.

The incident highlights the persistent insecurity affecting several rural areas of Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common.
